SEEA - Gender

Gender statistics are defined as statistics that adequately reflect differences and inequalities in the situation of women and men in all areas of life. As the secretariat of the Inter-agency and Expert Group on Gender Statistics (IAEG-GS), the United Nations Statistics Division has been leading the Global Gender Statistics Programme to advance gender statistics through the promotion of synergies among existing initiatives at the national, regional and global levels. In particular, the Global Programme aims to: enhance the capacity of countries to collect, disseminate and use high quality gender statistics through the development and promotion of international standards and methodological guidelines on measuring gender concerns in both existing and emerging areas; establish a collaborative environment among government institutions as well as strong partnerships between national and international experts; and promote effective communication of gender data with stakeholders.
